About James Connor Matthews, Associate Attorney

Probate and Settlement

James’ Story

Originally from Naperville, Illinois, James Matthews received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in 2014 before moving to beautiful Arizona with his dream of attending Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU.  After establishing residency in Arizona and receiving a scholarship to help with the financial burden of law school, James was accepted to the ASU Law class of 2018 – the only law school he applied to!

James discovered his passion for probate and trust administration issues during his 2nd year of law school while he clerked part-time for a small estate planning and probate law practice in Tempe.  During his clerkship, James repeatedly saw that if you do not take proper care of your estate plan and assets during your life, then after you pass on you may leave behind big problems for your loved ones.  Sometimes, the issues left behind can irreparably damage existing family relationships, which James absolutely hates to see.  James enjoys helping individuals and families navigate the steps to take and the issues faced after a loved one’s passing.

After graduating from ASU Law in 2018, James worked as an associate attorney at larger law firm in Phoenix, where he gained experience across a wide swath of the law, including probate and trust litigation.  After some time in a larger law firm, James knew that he wanted to pursue his passion of helping families deal with probate and trust issues, and that he wanted to provide the same personal attention that he felt he could provide his clients while he was a law clerk in a smaller law practice – so when presented the opportunity to join Harowitz & Morrison in March 2020, he jumped at the chance to join the team!  James has happily assisted our clients navigate probate and trust administration issues with kindness, honesty, and integrity.
