Some of the possessions of former Speaker of the House Jim Wright were part of an estate sale in Texas recently. The items sold have some interest for collectors of historical artifacts.
Jim Wright spent 34 years in the U.S. House of Representatives and eventually served as the Speaker of the House. He resigned in 1989 during an ethics investigation. Wright passed away at the age of 92 last year and his wife passed away shortly thereafter.
Wright had a large collection of items of historical interest.
Most of those were donated to Texas Christian University, but as the Star-Telegram reports in "At Jim Wright estate sale, pieces of history" many items of interest were recently part of an estate sale.
One item was a program for a Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce breakfast held in honor of President Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963. The breakfast took place a few hours before the President was assassinated. Also of note was a Russian coffee table book with a handwritten inscription from Mikhail Gorbachev.
Wright was an avid reader of historical biographers.
Many books in his collection were signed by their subjects. Other items up for sale included gifts from dignitaries and knick-knacks from Air Force One.
If you missed out on this auction and would have liked something, there is a chance that many of the items will be made available by the purchasers. That is often the case with items sold at estate sales.
